Catherine, a native of the Los Angeles area, studied cello technique with Victor Sazer, author of “New Techniques in Cello Playing” and chamber music with Peter Marsh, Delores Stevens, Victor Sazer, Maxine Neuman, David Aks, the Sequoia String Quartet and others. Ms. Cavella has won numerous honors, including the prestigious Byron Hoyt competition and the Theodore Presser Scholarship. Since graduating summa cum laude from California State University, Long Beach, in 1989, Ms. Cavella has performed with orchestras and chamber groups all over California and abroad. She was a featured soloist in the Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company’s production of Twelfth Night at the John Anson Ford Theater in Los Angeles and in Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson’s Complexions ballet at the Ahmanson Theatre. Ms. Cavella was principal cellist for Pasadena Lyric Opera from 1998 to 2002 and currently is principal cellist for the Southeast Symphony and Emerald Festival Opera.
