Opening night of the Hollywood Bowl season on Friday June 22, 2007 was an event to remember for two lucky VYMA students and for all VYMA supporters. As part of our partnership with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, VYMA and the other partnership orchestras were invited to send two students apiece to play Aaron Coplands "Hoe-Down" from the symphonic piece "Rodeo" with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra as part of the L.A. Phil's "Support Youth" program.

Our Abby and Asia (violinist and percussionist) started the day early with a rehearsal on stage in the morning. Presenter Jack Black gave "high fives" all around after the kids successfully kept up with the pros beside them.

After being fitted for their white tuxedo jackets it was off to Hollywood's "Mel's Drive-In" for lunch and then a movie at the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater, all compliments of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

That night with 18,000 people watching the students took their place on the Hollywood Bowl stage for a concert of exciting music and fireworks! The last thing heard was "Can we do it again??"
